PAAL NFL Flag Football

Portland Activities & Athletics League (PAAL)  was selected to start the first NFL Flag Football League in the Portland Metropolitan Area. This partnership with the NFL is a recreational program designed for all youth grades K-12, providing them with the opportunity to experience the sport with a focus on skill development, sportsmanship, and fun. Teams will practice during the week for one hour, once or twice a week with games on the weekends at city parks and schools.

Touchdown for Tots

Touchdown for Tots is a 6-week hour-long program with a 1-hour session each week. This program is for beginners ages 4 and 5 (Pre-Kindergarten and/or Kindergarten) who are not ready for the recreational program and games.

Each week there will be warm-ups, small drills, and fun mini-games. Players will also begin to learn important aspects of football including positions, handoffs, catching, and more! No week is the same to ensure that kids will stay engaged in the hour-long practice each week.

How to Be a Good Sport Program

Each week there will be a new character trait to focus on during the practice including relevant games and drills. Each character trait is a small piece of learning sportsmanship and we hope this program starts to create good sports at a young age.

Teamwork - Players learn how to work alongside others and the importance of teamwork.

Encouragement - Players learn how to encourage and cheer on their teammates during practices and games.

Fairness - Players learn the importance of following the rules and letting everyone participate.

Helpfulness - Players learn how they can be helpful towards their coaches, teammates and opponents.

Respect - Players learn the importance of showing respect toward the coach, teammates, and officials.

Sportsmanship - All 5 of the first traits are a part of sportsmanship along with emphasizing the importance of being a good sport during the scrimmage.

Annual boxing tournaments are held with partner boxing programs, increasing student exposure and creating friendly competition for the youth. The benefits include increased physical fitness, increased self-efficacy, and diversion from delinquent activities/behaviors.  Sessions will be 90 minutes, once per week.

This program is designed solely for female students grades 2-8, and focuses on self defense for smaller individuals facing larger attackers, reaching fitness goals, and training with like-minded women.  By educating young women on self-defense skills that can be applied to real-life situations, we hope to empower young women and bring greater awareness to the specific issues women face.  Sessions will be 45 minutes, once per week.

PAAL Playstreets

PAAL Playstreets provide opportunities for children to engage in organized physical activities, and to access helpful resources in their communities. PAAL will visit public areas in Gresham City neighborhoods suffering from high rates of crime and poverty (hotspots) to create supervised and fun-filled places for children graded K-12 to play in safety. Each playstreet has fun athletic and recreational equipment, as well as arts and crafts, to make a fun experience for the youth. All Playstreets are staffed with a Playstreet PAAL, and will provide adult mentors and supervision.
